Visual metaphor and photoshopping (music magazine)
From my target audience feedback on the firs draft of my music magazine from cover I was told that I needed my magazine to link more to the photograph. So as the model in the photograph is from the band 'The Cherry and Whites' I thought it would be a good idea to replace the letter 'a' with a cherry replicating this letter. However, I encountered a problem in doing this as the photographs I took of the cherry had a shadow behind which was unlike anything else on my cover. So I showed my photoshop skills and edited out the shadow. Here is the photograph

magazine title and colours (music magazine)
Title
I took inspiration for the title of my music magazine from the music magazine 'Q' and the technology magazine 'T3' which stands for 'Tomorrow's Technology Today'. As 'Q' magazine is the same genre and style as my magazine so I took inspiration from this, so I came to the conclusion that the title should be short. I then took inspiration from 'T3' so my title could have a longer meaning whilst still remaining short like 'Q'. I then came up with the name 'M2' standing for 'Modern Music', which is short but has a longer meaning which was my plan for the magazine.
Colours
During my real media research I learnt that many of the magazines in my genre such as nme, kerrang and Q often use the colour red so I felt as though that red should also be the main colour in my magazine as well.

re-touch photos(music magazine)
I felt that my photographs could do with improvement, so I re-touched them on the apple mac in order to make them look better and therefore more suitable for my magazine. Here is one example of my photographs before and after. What I did was crop the original photograph and edited out the things in the background to make it look more like a music magazine photograph.

Audience feedback and Flat plans for contents pages (music magazine)
These are my flat plans for my music magazine contents pages, using the conventions I found during my Real media research.
I then went on to get some audience feedback on the positive and negatives of each of my flat plans, here are my results:
Flat plans and Audience Feedback of the front covers (music magazine)
These are my flat plans for the front cover of my music magazine, which I have made using my real media research so I know what conventions to use.
After this I then did got my target audience to give me feedback on what the positives and negatives are for my plans. Below are my results:

Flat plans and Audience feedback on the double page spread (music magazine)
I then went on to get some audience feedback on the double page spread flat plans to see what my target audience thought was good about my plans and how I could improve on them.
To the right is my audience feedback.
Real Media Research - Contents (music magazine)
This is my research into the contents pages of music magazines. From this I have learnt conventions such as the page always has 'contents' at the top of the page alongside the name of the magazine, which will help me decide how I will plan to do my contents page.
Real Media Research - Front Cover (music magazine)
This is my real media research into covers of music magazines. Before doing this research i decided that my closest competition to my magazine would be 'Q magazine' as they also do the genre which I am doing for my magazine and therefore have the same target audience. From this research I have learned that red and black are the dominant colours and I have learnt conventions, like how the artist stands, are important to appeal to the target audience.

Target Audience (Preliminary task)
The target audience for my preliminary task of the school magazine is Secondary School students and parents. Secondary School students and parents would be an ideal target audience as it would give them a lot of information on the school. My school magazine front cover would appeal to the students as it has a good look to it and as it includes a photograph of a student so they would feel like it is important to them and is inclusive for them. Also the fact that the student on the cover is a sixth former would appeal to the younger students as it is a figure to look up to. The sub headings on the cover would appeal to parents as it shows them what is in the rest of the magazine. The magazine would be free to students from that school so it would be a good challenge for rival magazines.
Research (Preliminary Task)
I have researched 12 school magazines, analysing aspects of their front covers to see what conventions tend to be used. Below is some of my results:
